Vancouver election: Long lineups reported at many polling locations

The reportedly tight race between Vision Vancouver mayoral incumbent Gregor Robertson and his NPA challenger Kirk LaPointe seems to be translating into turnout at the polls today.

Voters across the city are reporting long line-ups at many polling locations.

Outside the Kitsilano Community Centre voters were reporting waits of up to an hour-and-a-half.

The West End Community Centre, the Roundhouse Community Centre and Commercial Drive and Fairview were also reporting long voter line-ups early Saturday morning.

Pundits say the passion to vote may have come from a heated and increasingly nasty campaign that saw incumbent mayorGregor Robertson launch a lawsuit over attack ads.

His NPA opponent Kirk LaPointe is a political rookie, but that hasn't stopped him from being a contender in a race most agree is just too close to call.
