Fatal collision closes northbound Highway 400

A serious collision between two vehicles has closed the northbound lanes of Highway 400 north of Highway 88 to Highway 89.

The collision between a car and a transport truck killed one person, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

There are reports one or more of the vehicles may be on fire. Emergency crews are on the scene.

The area is part of a stretch of central Ontario — from Grey-Bruce east to Peterborough-Kawartha lakes — which Environment Canada earlier placed under a snow squall warning.

The OPP has warned that blowing snow has resulted in zero visibility on parts of Highway 400.
