Toronto's most-wanted toys may not be around till Christmas

Just because Toronto has already had its first snowfall and December is only weeks away, that doesn't mean the holiday shopping season has started yet.

Or does it?

That all depends on if you are buying toys related to the movie Frozen.

Those toys will be this year's most-sought after gifts for children — the toys that appear on the most wish lists, the Canadian Toy Association says.

And they may only be available for a short time, according to retail experts.

Customer Lab CEO Jim Danahy says stores have been more cautious ordering stock and shoppers shouldn't wait too long to buy.

"If there's a particularly hot item that you like, electronics or toys in particular, get it now," Danahy warns. "By the middle of December, they'll have sold out."

He says it's up to shoppers to be strategic.

Top five most-wanted gifts

There’s no Cabbage Patch blockbuster for 2014, but below is a selection of items from high tech to low that Customer Lab predicts may become hard-to-find as we get deeper into the Christmas season.

- Disney Frozen Sparkle Princess Elsa Doll (or anything from the Disney film Frozen)

- Lego Minecraft and Lego Fusion Town Master

- Vtech Kidizoom Smartwatch

- Nintendo 2DS

- Logitech Bemo mini camera
