WINNIPEG - Manitoba Opposition Leader Brian Pallister has launched an attempt to defeat the troubled NDP government in the legislature, but it appears doomed to fail.
Pallister has moved a non-confidence motion, which could trigger an election if it is passed by a majority of members.
The NDP has a solid majority, but five former cabinet ministers and two backbenchers are on the outs with Premier Greg Selinger after openly challenging him.
Pallister has been hoping to get the NDP rebels onside, but one of the rebels, Jennifer Howard, says she and the other former cabinet ministers will vote with the government.
The Progressive Conservative non-confidence motion is expected to come to a vote sometime next week.
