'Le grand derangement' is disrespectful to Acadians, says Montreal mayor

The term used to describe today’s protest against changes to municipal pension plans is raising the ire of some Acadians.

The protest is being called “le grand derangement,” or the great upheaval.

That's also the name of the large expulsion of Acadians from Canada’s east coast between 1755–1764.

Acadians were deported to France, Britain, and the east coast of the United States.

Many were separated from their families and loved ones.
