B.C.'s Eddie Tang, 84, nominated for Citizen of The Year

From organizing mah jong games, to raising money for park shelters, 84-year-old Eddie Tang has been actively volunteering in Vancouver's Renfrew community for more than 35 years.

Now he's made the shortlist for "Everyday Political Citizen of the Year" in Canada. The contest is run by Samara Canada, an organization that aims to boost political engagement across the country.

The MP for Vancouver-Kingsway Don Davies has nominated volunteer Tang for his civic and community involvement in the Renfrew neighbourhood.

Speaking to the CBC, Davies listed Tang's accomplishments, including his fundraising efforts to build a community shelter at Slocan Park.

"Eddie's a quiet and humble person who is cheerful and positive. Eddie Tang just makes our country a better place," Davies said.

The Everyday Political Citizen of the Year winners will be announced on Dec. 3.
