Traffic has been backed up ever since the accident shortly after 8 a.m. PT.
DriveBC says the closure is due to a police incident and estimates the highway will reopen by 2 p.m. PT.
Meanwhile, Highway 5 at the Coquihalla Summit is also closed due to a collision and not expected to open until 5 p.m. PT.
The accident is one of several collisions due to snow and ice on the roads from an overnight snowfall.
Early Saturday police reported a collision on the Brunette Highway in New Westminster. The eastbound off-ramp at Highway 1 and United Boulevard was also temporarily closed due to accidents caused by black ice.
Highway 99 at Highway 91 in Delta was closed for a few hours Saturday because of accidents also caused by icy roads.
Police are advising motorists to take road conditions into account and drive a little slower while the winter weather lasts.
