Penticton hospital worker attacked by patient

A health care worker at Penticton Regional Hospital was the victim of a "horrific attack" by a patient over the weekend, the head of the B.C. Nurses' Union, Gayle Duteil has confirmed.

Duteil told CBC News the worker is not a nurse, but is a health care professional.

No other details of the attack have been released by the BCNU or the Interior Health Authority, but the BCNU plans to release more details about the attack at a news conference scheduled for early this afternoon.

A CBC investigation earlier this year found incidents involving violent or potentially violent patients known as 'code whites' happen at least ten times a day in B.C.'s hospitals.
