Canada Post's last day to guarantee standard Christmas parcel delivery

Today is the last day to send regular parcels by Canada Post and be guaranteed they will make it to their destinations within Canada by Christmas Day.

If you're sending cards or packages by Canada Post through the more expensive Xpresspost within Canada or to the U.S., you still have a bit of time.

You have until Dec. 22 to use Xpresspost and up to Dec. 23 to use Priority Post, the most expensive option.

Canada Post workers say some people are flirting with the deadlines.

"The last week or so we've been very busy. Lots of people, as always, get their Christmas shopping done at the last minute and are trying to get things out," said Michelle Johnson, who works for Canada Post in Windsor, Ont.

"Unfortunately, many people are trying to get things to France, Germany, England or Australia and it might not get there unless they're willing to pay a lot of money for it. Xpresspost to international destinations the deadline [passed] Monday. We have people coming in today and sending stuff that may not make it."
