Ryan Garbutt suspended 3 games for Byfuglien check

Dallas Stars forward Ryan Garbutt was suspended for three games Thursday by the NHL for an illegal check on the Winnipeg Jets' Dustin Byfuglien.

Garbutt used a "slew foot" move to take down Byfuglien from behind as the players chased a puck near the Winnipeg net in the third period of the Jets' 5-2 win at Dallas on Tuesday night.

Garbutt received a minor penalty for tripping.

Garbutt, a repeat offender who two weeks ago received a two-game ban for kneeing Edmonton's Taylor Hall, will lose almost $66,000 US in salary during the suspension.
