Energy efficiency programs to be administered by New Brunswick utility

FREDERICTON - Energy efficiency programs currently run by a New Brunswick government agency are being merged with the province's utility.

Energy Minister Donald Arseneault says NB Power will take responsibility for the programs administered by Efficiency NB through the creation of a new energy efficiency unit.

Arseneault says the government is setting up an efficiency program that is funded by ratepayers and overseen by the Energy and Utilities Board.

The government wants to lessen the cost to electrical ratepayers.

The government will also continue to help low-income households through funding an efficiency program aimed at them.
