Etobicoke seniors' centre cleared after major gas leak

A major gas leak forced the evacuation of a Etobicoke seniors' home on Tuesday night, but residents were let back into the building shortly after firefighters got the situation under control.

Firefighters responded to a report of a natural gas leak around 9:30 p.m. at the LeisureworldCaregiving Centre, a 3-storey facility on Humberline Drive with approximately 160 beds inside, officials said.

The call was upgraded to a two-alarm event, though no injuries were reported.

Several TTC buses were called to the scene to provide shelter for those who were moved out of the building. Residents were allowed back in just before 11 p.m.

It's unclear what caused the gas leak.
