TTC to allow credit and debit card subway fare purchases: report

In a speech about reducing Toronto's traffic congestion several weeks ago, Mayor John Tory said it's time to take the city into the "20th century."

And now it appears the TTC will take steps to do the same.

A report in the Toronto Star today suggests that riders will finally be able to use credit and debit cards to purchase fares at subway stations throughout the city.

Tory and TTC CEO Andy Byford are set to announce the details of the changes at a press conference at 11 a.m. this morning.

Updating TTC policy has been at the forefront of Tory's agenda since he took office at the beginning of the month. Last week, Tory and Byford revealed that the 504 King streetcar will allow all-door boarding to reduce travel times aboard the route, the city's busiest.
