Man charged with drug production after explosion in apartment

A Brampton man has been charged after an explosion occurred inside his apartment on Saturday night.

At 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, emergency responders were called to a unit on the 16th floor of a building on Silver Maple Court, near Queen Street East and Dixie Road.

At that time, a man was taken to hospital to be treated for burns to his arms.

Hours later, police said the 31-year-old man had been charged with mischief endangering life and production of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

Police say the entire 16th floor has been evacuated. Residents are not allowed back for the time being.

Investigators are preparing a warrant, which if granted will allow them to collect evidence from the unit.

None of the charges or allegations have been proven in court.
