Travis Vader, accused in killing of McCanns, released on house arrest

Travis Vader, the Alberta man again charged with killing two missing seniors, was released on house arrest following a bail hearing in Edmonton on Tuesday.

Vader was rearrested and charged with first-degree murder on Friday in the deaths of Lyle and Marie McCann of St. Albert, Alta.

The initial charges were stayed in March but the Crown had one year to reactivate proceedings.

Vader was released from custody in October after he was found not guilty of nine unrelated theft, drug and firearm charges that kept him behind bars.

The McCanns were last seen alive in July 2010 at a gas station in their hometown of St. Albert.  The seniors were on their first day of a road trip to British Columbia.

Their burned-out motorhome was found two days later in a remote area near Edson, Alta. Their bodies have never been found.
