Amaria Diljohn's death: TTC to contribute $20,000 for funeral costs

Saying it's "the right thing to do" in the wake of the 14-year-old girl's death last week, CEO Andy Byford has authorized the TTC to contribute $20,000 toward Amaria Diljohn's funeral costs.

Diljohn died Friday after she was struck by a TTC bus in Scarborough. The police are continuing to investigate the incident. So far no charges have been laid against the 27-year-old driver.

Police have yet to say whether the driver, whose bus did not stay at the intersection after Diljohn was hit, was aware that a pedestrian had been struck.

Byford has said the TTC will cooperate fully with the investigation.

Yesterday the TTC announced it will accelerate a review of how its drivers are trained and recruited in response to Diljohn's death. He also said TTC officials are "devastated" about the girl's death.
