Two restaurants well-known by both Torontonians and visitors alike were irreparably damaged by fire Thursday evening. Yorkville institutions Sotto Sotto and Spuntini were consumed on Christmas Day in a four-alarm fire that saw 80 firefighters called to put out the blaze.

UPDATE: Officials are treating the fire as suspicious, according to The Globe and Mail.

It is remains unknown how the fire started, but the Star reports Spuntini had been closed since Tuesday, while Sotto Sotto was open on Wednesday. Spuntini occupied the second floor, while Sotto Sotto was at street level. It was believed no one was in the building at the time of the fire.

A tweet from Sofia Esteves, daughter of Spuntini founder and co-owner Fernando Esteves, had a statement from her father:

The restaurants, which are located on Avenue Road in Yorkville, have long been host to many stars during the Toronto International Film Festival. It was also a beloved institution by locals.
