Trois-Rivières tug boat sinks, leaks 22 tonnes of fuel into water

A tug boat sank on Friday afternoon at the Port of Trois-Rivières, leaking some 22 tonnes of fuel into the St. Lawrence River.

The boat was moored in a section of the port for several weeks. No one was on board when it sank.

Quebec's emergency environmental team is on the scene, trying to contain the fuel leak.

It has been there since noon on Friday, installing the booms that help separate water from fuel.

The reason the boat sank is not yet known.
