Naverone Woods ID'd as man shot by transit police in Surrey

The B.C. Coroners Service has identified the man shot and killed by transit police in a Surrey Safeway store last Sunday as Naverone Christian Landon Woods, aged 23.

Woods was originally from Hazelton, B.C., but was staying in Surrey, according to coroner Barb McLintock.

He was shot by police shortly after 8 a.m. PT on Dec. 28, in the Safeway store at 10355 King George Highway. Witnesses said he was stabbing himself with a knife when police arrived.

After the shooting he was transported from the scene to Royal Columbian Hospital but was pronounced dead soon after arrival at hospital, said the statement issued by the coroners office on Wednesday.

The B.C. Coroners Service and the Independent Investigations Office continue to investigate this death, said the statement.
