4 snowmobilers safe after crashing through ice north of Peterborough

Four snowmobile riders were found safe this morning after two snowmobiles went through the ice early Thursday on Jack Lake, located about 75 kilometres northeast of Peterborough.

Emergency crews were called shortly after midnight to the area of Grigg's Island on Jack Lake where they confirmed reports that two snowmobiles were seen travelling on the ice when they suddenly disappeared.

Police searched the area and located the riders Thursday morning. The snowmobilers had spent the night at a cottage and are OK.

"The ice conditions in this region are not safe for snowmobiling," OPP Const. Jason Folz told CBC News.
