Arson fire, break-in at Capilano University library in North Vancouver

Authorities are investigating a break-in and arson fire at Capilano University in North Vancouver, B.C.

The fire started at 12:30 a.m. PT on Jan. 2 in the library administration area and was contained there by the emergency sprinkler system that was activated, said North Vancouver RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong in a statement.

"The North Vancouver RCMP Arson Unit along with North Vancouver District Fire Department determined the fire to have been deliberately set," the statement said.

"This criminal investigation is in its early stages with investigators examining video surveillance in efforts to identify any potential suspects."

Despite some water and smoke damage to the library, Capilano University said classes will commence as scheduled on Jan. 5.
