'Smart Shirt' Created By Fuel Wear Clothing Is The Answer To Your Winter Woes

This Self-Heating Shirt Is The Answer To Your Winter Woes

Winter is here, Canada. These self-warming shirts will help.

The Flame Baselayer shirt (dubbed smart shirt) was created by three Toronto-based entrepreneurs that formed FuelWear Clothing, and heats up or cools down by detecting your body's temperature. How does it do it? The shirt is heated via a small battery that's kept inside a pocket, along with the shirt's conductive bamboo fabric that helps monitor temperature.

"It's the first intelligent, smart-heated base layer shirt that monitors your body temperature and provides you with the right amount of heating in the winter," Clement Zhou, a co-founder of FuelWear Clothing, told CBC News.

In order to put their design into motion, the team started crowdfunding on Indiegogo, and quickly surpassed their $20,000 goal, raising a total of $80,000. The sleek long-sleeved black shirt is now on sale, but is quickly selling out. Demand has been so high, it's even caused production delays, according to the Financial Post.

“As we underestimated the demand for our product, we hit the production cap of our manufacturer in Canada within the first two weeks,” Zhou told the Post.

Along with keeping you warm, the entrepreneurs explain on their Indiegogo page that the shirt is machine-washable and biodegradable, while the battery is stored in a "ruggedized case" and is completely safe. It's selling for $199 on their crowdfunding page.
