Duch nets nine points as Stealth defeat Roughnecks to open season

CALGARY - Rhys Duch had four goals and five assists to lead the Vancouver Stealth to an 18-14 win over the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday night in National Lacrosse League action.

Ilija Gajic and Tyler Digby both scored a hat trick for Vancouver (1-0). Tyler Burton, Caleb Wiles and Tyler Hass chipped in with two goals apiece while Joel McCready and Lewis Ratcliff had the others.

Dane Dobbie found the back of the net four times for the Roughnecks (0-1), who are the defending Western Conference champions. Curtis Dickson and Jeff Shattler both had hat tricks while Shawn Evans had a seven-point night with two goals and five assists. Geoff Snider and Mike Carnegie also scored.

Tyler Richards turned away 48 shots for the Stealth. Mike Poulin started in net for Calgary and stopped 22-of-34 shots in 39:34. Frankie Scigliano entered in relief and made eight saves in 19:46 while also suffering the loss.

Vancouver converted on all four power plays while the Roughnecks went 2 for 4.
