Canada to resettle 10,000 more Syrian refugees over 3 years

Immigration Minister Chris Alexander says Canada will resettle 10,000 more Syrian refugees over the next three years in response to the UN's plea for more help.

The announcement comes as a report released today from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees says the number of Syrian refugees has outnumbered Afghans as the largest refugee population under the protection of the United Nations.

The UN put out a global call earlier this year to help resettle 100,000 refugees fleeing escalating violence in Syria.
