Highway 1 closed between Kensington and Boundary in Burnaby

A truck crash has closed the Trans Canada Highway in Burnaby, B.C. for the Wednesday morning rush hour.

According to reports a tanker truck carrying about 10,000 litres of diesel fuel rolled onto its side east of the Willingdon overpass just after midnight.

The truck driver is reported to have suffered non-life threatening injuries. A second vehicle was reportedly also involved in the accident.

Hazmat crews are on the scene cleaning up the spilled fuel, but Burnaby RCMP say they do not expect Highway 1 to reopen before 8 a.m. PT.

However, some emergency officials on scene have indicated the route could partially reopen by 7 a.m. PT.

Drivers are advised to avoid the route if possible

- Eastbound traffic is being detoured via Boundary Road.

- Westbound traffic is being detoured via Kensington Avenue.
