Peter Horachek named Leafs interim head coach

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager David Nonis named Peter Horachek interim head coach Wednesday after the firing of Randy Carlyle.

Horachek has been an assistant coach with the team since July 11, 2014. He was the head coach of the American Hockey League’s San Antonio Rampage before becoming head coach of the Florida Panthers midway through the 2013-14 season. He spent 66 games behind the bench in Florida posting a 26-36-4 record.

Horachek was also 

Steve Staios, the Leafs’ Manager of Player Development, will be helping out on the bench and in practice. Staios joined the team July 25, 2012. He played 18 seasons in the NHL as a defenceman.
