Via Rail train stranded after freight derailment in Mont-Joli, Que.

A Via Rail passenger train en route to Halifax was forced to stop last night because of a car derailment of a freight train in Mont-Joli, Que.

The passenger train couldn't go any farther than Amqui, Que.

Buses have been called to take passengers to their destinations. Many are still en route to pick up the passengers.

People awaiting passengers are asked to call Via Rail at 1-888-888-5909 to get an estimated time when passengers will arrive at their destinations.

The first passengers are expected to arrive in Moncton at 6 p.m.
