321 vehicles towed from downtown Toronto streets last week

Three-hundred and twenty-one vehicles were towed on downtown streets last week, as part of what Toronto police say is a permanent enforcement strategy known as tag and tow.

Police released the Monday-to-Friday totals today. They also reported issuing 2,430 parking tags over the same time period.

On Friday alone, police say they towed 59 vehicles and tagged 503 vehicles.

The crackdown on illegal parking during rush hour was something that Mayor John Tory had called for during the recent municipal election campaign.

Tory had touted the tag-and-tow strategy as a way of getting the attention of drivers, including those operating delivery trucks.
