Roderick McIntosh charged in killing of Brent Gartner

An injured man found near the scene of a fatal stabbing over the weekend has been charged with second-degree murder.

Toronto police issued a news release on Tuesday advising that Roderick McIntosh, 67, of Toronto had been charged in the death of Brent Gartner.

Police were called to an apartment at 330 Jarvis St. on Saturday evening, where they found the 51-year-old Gartner suffering from multiple stab and slash wounds.

Gartner was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

At about the same time police responded to the call at the Jarvis Street building, they found an injured man a short distance away.

Within hours, police identified that man as the suspect. On Tuesday, they charged him with second-degree murder.

Gartner's death is the first homicide that police have investigated in Toronto this year.
