Montreal police internal affairs leading illegal bookmaking investigation

A large-scale investigation into illegal bookmaking and organized crime in Quebec has led to arrests in Montreal, Laval and Quebec City.

The investigation is being led by Montreal police’s internal affairs division, though it's not yet clear if any officers were involved in the illegal gambling operations.

Montreal police Const. Raphaël Bergeron said several other local police units, as well as police in other communities, were involved in executing search and arrest warrants this morning.

Police have not said how many people were arrested.

Bergeron said the bookmaking operations are linked to “Italian organized crime.”

No further information has been released.
