Alleged bullying video leads to assault charge

Police in Summerside, P.E.I. have laid assault charges against a 15-year-old Summerside boy in relation to a video that went viral over the Christmas holidays.

The video, of an incident on the school grounds of Three Oaks Senior High School, posted Christmas Eve saw millions of views. Police say the incident itself happened a couple of months earlier.

The youth will appear in provincial youth court at a later date to answer to the charges.

The video shows a student from the high school throwing punches at another student. The victim of the alleged assault tries to walk away. The video ends when a third youth enters the picture and knocks down the alleged bully.

Three Oaks principal Nicole Haire confirmed for CBC News that the alleged bully and victim are students at her school. She said the school has been limited in what it can do while the police investigation is underway, but that she could not in any case discuss details of how the students were being disciplined.
