Quartz Nature, coat company that supplies police, burglarized

Quebec provincial police are investigating the theft of dozens of winter coats in Saint-Hyacinthe at a company that supplies winter coats to some police forces in the province.

Melanie Dumaresq, a spokeswoman for Quebec provincial police, said the theft happened at a warehouse of Quartz Nature, which specializes in polyester & down-filled winter jackets.

She said police were called to the warehouse at around 11 p.m. Monday.

A hole had been cut through the metal garage door at the site.

“The suspects allegedly entered through a door and then stole several coats, about 50,” Dumaresq said.

The company supplies coats to Quebec provincial police and Laval police units.

It also supplies merchandise to Quebec sportswear retailers, such as Atmosphere and Source for Sports.

Dumaresq said it appears the only coats taken were those destined for the general public. The coats retail for about $1,000.

Quebec provincial police were at the scene Tuesday morning.
