Alberta fugitive found inside sofa by Vancouver police

An Alberta fugitive has been arrested after being found inside a sofa in a Vancouver home.

Police were tipped off Tuesday that the 36-year-old man was living in the house, but officers with a search warrant couldn't find him.

"As officers began to give up hope that their suspect was inside, an alert police canine began to focus on a sofa in the living room," said Vancouver police in a release. "Officers lifted the sofa, removed the fabric from the bottom and found the wanted fugitive hiding inside."

Even veteran police officers say they're amazed at the hiding spot.

“In my 24 years of police service, I have never in my career seen a suspect hide inside the body of the sofa,” said Insp. Ian Upton in a release.

The man will be returned to Alberta to finish his 3.5-year sentence for drug offences.
