How Much Sugar Is In Your Food?

How Much Sugar You're Actually Eating (And Drinking)

Sugar might be the current villain of the food world, but even if you're hyper-aware of how much you're consuming, the thing about those tiny white grains is that they can sneak in just about anywhere.

Last year, the World Health Organization urged people to limit sugar to five per cent of their diet, noting excess sugar consumption could lead to obesity and tooth decay. Health risks associated with obesity, in turn, can include heart disease, some cancers, diabetes and more, according to WebMD.

In the video above, Buzzfeed takes a look at just what 25 grams (the suggested daily amount) looks like in the foods we eat and drink every day. While some examples may seem to make sense (like say, almost a loaf of bread), when you add up everything you consume, it's terrifyingly easy to see how the sugar piles up.
