Coquitlam strip mall fire destroys, damages businesses

Two businesses have been destroyed in an early morning fire at a Coquitlam strip mall.

More than 30 firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze that started at the Eagle Ridge Square strip mall around 1:30 a.m. PT Thursday.

Crews started bringing the fire under control around after 5 a,m. PT.

Firefighters said the fire started in the Sushi Mori restaurant in the strip mall at 2565 Barnet Highway and spread to the Pallas Athena restaurant. Both buildings were destroyed in the fire.

The roof of the Pallas Athena restaurant collapsed and at least four other connected businesses were also damaged.

Barnet Highway at Faclon Drive was closed, but Port Moody police tweeted just before 5 a.m. that the Barnet is now open at Ioco Road.

Cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
