Fushpinder Singh Brar charged with manslaughter in Surrey cold case

Surrey, B.C. RCMP have charged a man with manslaughter in a cold case shooting from 2006.

In 2006, Mahdi Halane was shot in the neck after a confrontation at a gas station in the early morning hours of Oct. 14.

Halane’s spinal cord was severed and he was left a quadriplegic until his death in 2012, which police say was attributed to the 2006 shooting.

Now, police have charged 30-year-old Fushpinder Singh Brar with manslaughter. He was arrested on Friday in Vancouver.

"Our officers routinely revisit and continue to investigate cases in an effort to move them forward." said Insp. Manny Mann.

"This latest arrest and charge of manslaughter are a direct result of investigators following up on leads and new information received, and we hope it will help bring some closure to the family."

But the cold case investigation continues as police believe other individuals were involved who have yet to be identified.

Anyone with more information should contact Sgt. Mike Hall at 504-599-7634 or if they wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
