Maple Leaf Gardens evacuated amid reports of fumes

Fire officials have evacuated Maple Leaf Gardens following reports of fumes and a suspicious odour.

One person, who was suffering from shortness of breath, has been transported to hospital according to Toronto paramedics.

Emergency officials say others on the scene at the historic building located at the corner of Carlton Street and Church Street were coughing and reported having difficulty breathing.

The former home of the Toronto Maple Leafs now houses a Loblaws grocery store, a medical clinic and the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Early reports suggested the odour is centred in the Loblaws.
