Kelowna crash leaves 21-year-old woman dead

A 21-year-old woman was found dead after her car apparently left a B.C. highway and careened more than 75 metres down an embankment.

Kelowna RCMP said that they received a report of a possible single vehicle crash on Highway 33 East on Wednesday afternoon. On site, they discovered a Mitsubishi Lancer at the bottom of an embankment, with the deceased driver inside.

The Kelowna woman has been identified, but police are withholding her name as they have yet to inform her next of kin.

The highway was closed for several hours on Wednesday as RCMP constructed a detailed scene analysis.

An investigation continues into the cause of the crash.
