TDSB report: 1 in 5 schools could close

A new report from the Toronto District School Board shows one in five of its schools could be at risk of closure due to falling enrolment.

The Globe and Mail says numbers released at a committee meeting last night show 130 of the board's 589 schools are operating at lower than 65 per cent capacity.

Some of those schools include Eastern Commerce Collegiate, Kensington Community School and Nelson Mandela Park Public School.

The board will now look at each of the schools on that list and decide whether to close them.

The province has asked the board to sell underused properties to cut costs and pay for a backlog of repairs at other schools in Toronto.
