Longboarder YouTube video does not show police endangered B.C. riders, watchdog rules

A West Vancouver police officer accused of running a group of longboarders off the road has been cleared of any wrongdoing by B.C.'s civilian police watchdog.

The April 2014 incident was captured on a GoPro helmet camera, and the footage uploaded to YouTube by Danny Carlson who identified himself as one of the boarders.

"GoPro footage of a cop cutting in front of myself, Lee Cation, and Keenan Macartney in West Van. Super scary! I'm glad no one got creamed by this idiot!," Carlson posted on his Facebook page.

The video shows the boarders riding down a hill, before swerving to avoid a car driven by a police officer.

The officer was accused of endangering the boarders' safety, while trying to stop them, and a complaint was filed.

An investigation by the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner has concluded the officer did nothing wrong, West Vancouver Police Department said in a statement Friday.
