Bernard 'Rambo' Gauthier granted discharge on intimidation conviction

Bernard Gauthier, the FTQ-Construction union representative described as 'powerful as God' by a Charbonneau Commission witness, has been given an absolute discharge.

Gauthier – known as "Rambo" – was found guilty of one count of intimidation by Sept-Îles judge Michel Parent last December.

Gauthier was found to have used threats to force contractor Frédéric Boucher to stop working during a construction strike in 2013.

Today's absolute discharge allows Gauthier to continue to work for the union on Quebec's North Shore.

The sentence stems from a joint recommendation from the crown and defence lawyers.
