The team made the announcement Friday, after the New York Post reported that Lundqvist will miss at least a month.
Lundqvist was struck in the throat by a shot early in the second period of last Saturday's game against Carolina. He appeared to be in pain and was treated on the ice by the Rangers' medical staff, but he stayed in and finished with 31 saves in a 4-1 New York victory.
Lundqvist later said he felt lightheaded and was experiencing headaches for the rest of the game, and he sat out Wednesday's game against Boston.
Backup Cam Talbot, who was in net for the 3-2 victory over the Bruins, is expected to assume the role of New York's top netminder.
