Thompson scores winner in overtime as Bandits edge Roughnecks 15-14

CALGARY - Jerome Thompson scored 4:18 into overtime as the Buffalo Bandits edged the Calgary Roughnecks 15-14 on Saturday night in National Lacrosse League action.

Dhane Smith scored five times and added five assists to lead the Bandits (4-3) offensively. Chad Culp had a hat trick while Joe Resetarits and Ryan Benesch both had a pair of goals. Kevin Brownell and Mark Steenhuis rounded out the attack.

Jeff Shattler had a hat trick for Calgary (0-5) including a goal at 14:51 of the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. Daryl Veltman also had three goals for the Roughnecks. Shawn Evans, Curtis Dickson, Karsen Leung and Dane Dobbie all struck twice.

Anthony Cosmo turned away 44 shots for the win. Frankie Scigliano suffered the loss, making 42 saves in 53:17. Mike Poulin entered for 1:01 and allowed a goal on the lone shot he faced.

Buffalo went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Roughnecks scored three times on six chances.
