Man Shot In The Face In Toronto's East End

A man has been shot in the face in the city's east end this morning, according to police.

Police were called to the Dawes Road and Gower Street area shortly after 8:50 a.m. and found a male who had appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the face.

Toronto Paramedics said the man was conscious and in stable condition. They transported him the trauma centre at St. Michael's Hospital.

George Webster Elementary School and Dawes Centre for Early Learning were placed in a hold and secure — meaning no one can enter or exit the buildings — due to the police investigation.

Police said the wounded man approached a person in a nearby vehicle and was yelling that he had been shot and needed an ambulance before they arrived on scene.

Several streets in the area are closed for the investigation and police are advising people to avoid the intersection if possible.

Police are currently speaking to one person of interest in the investigation.
