Charges laid after man shot in the face in east end yesterday

Toronto police have laid charges after a man was shot in the face in the city's east end yesterday.

Police responded to a call in the area of Dawes Road and Victoria Park Avenue shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday, and found a man with a gunshot wound to the face.

The shooting led to several elementary schools to enter a hold and secure as police searched for the gunmen.

The Emergency Task Force was called, and police were eventually led to a nearby home, where they took two individuals into custody.

One of those men, 29-year-old Jeffrey Murphy, now faces a total of 15 charges, including attempted murder, forcible confinement, aggravated assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm and several charges related to breach of probation.

The other man arrested at the residence has been released without conditions, police said.

The shooting victim was taken to hospital yesterday in stable condition.

Murphy was scheduled to appear in a downtown courtroom this morning.
