Southern Alberta is fast becoming a great place to spot fire streaking across the night sky.
Calgary photographer Neil Zeller was trying to capture the northern lights when he saw a spectacular fireball flying across the sky west of the city at about 11 p.m. MT Monday night.
It's usually difficult to catch such phenomena in the sky, but this one could be seen for as long as 20 seconds, Zeller told CBC News.
"Once it was over, I just wanted to yell like a kid," he told the network.
But Zeller's wasn't the only sighting of the the light in the sky. The phenomenon had been spotted as far south as some U.S. states, The Calgary Sun reported.
The newspaper quoted NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Patrick Wiggins telling Utah journalists that the light could have been an object re-entering Earth's atmosphere, perhaps a Chinese rocket body that launched a satellite two months ago.
Zeller's wasn't the only post that captured the light either. A video posted to YouTube caught it glowing over Calgary's Saddledome.
It's not the first time recently that such a fiery object has been spotted in the sky over Alberta.
Two months ago, photographer Brett Abernethy caught an incredible photo of a fireball over Mount Rundle in Banff National Park.
As for Zeller, he also caught a spectacular photo of the northern lights.
