Waterville home explosion sends 6 to hospital

Six people are in hospital and fire officials and police are investigating after an explosion at a home in Waterville, N.S., early Tuesday morning.

Waterville Fire Chief Wayne Johnstone says the call came in around 1:17 a.m.

The six occupants of the home are all at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, but the fire chief did not know the extent of their injuries.

The homeowners originally thought it was a furnace fire, but Johnstone says officials are not sure what actually caused the explosion.

Johnstone says the incident is odd because the explosion caused major damage to the split level home, but there was little fire.

The explosion is being investigated by the RCMP, the fire marshal's office and the Waterville and District Fire Department.
