Atlantic ferry service back on track after icy conditions

Ferries travelling in Atlantic Canada are having more luck on the water this weekend.

Last week, some ferries between North Sydney, Nova Scotia and Port aux Basques, Newfoundland were delayed up to six hours because of ice.

A spokesperson for Marine Atlantic says service is back on track.

“Right now, we cleared the backlog of traffic on both sides. Thankfully, Mother Nature cooperated this weekend and the ice didn’t have as significant an impact as we thought it might have had with those westerly winds,” said Darrell Mercer.

The Magdalen Islands ferry operated by CTMA Cruises was stuck in ice and detoured to North Sydney because it couldn't reach Souris, P.E.I. That vessel left Sydney on Saturday.
