New Westminster police officer fired after theft investigation

The New Westminster Police Department fired an officer after an internal theft investigation, the department revealed on Monday morning.

The officer, who has not yet been identified, was an eight-year member of the force, according to Chief Constable Dave Jones.

“This allegation was taken very seriously from the outset and I can assure the community that a significant amount of effort and resources were committed to this investigation to ensure that the information gathered was accurate and complete.”

The officer has not been charged, but is still facing allegations related to other undisclosed matters under the Police Act and the Criminal Code, said Jones.
