Wade MacLauchlan, Rookie P.E.I. Premier, Seeks New Conflict-Of-Interest Rules

CHARLOTTETOWN - The new premier of Prince Edward Island says he wants to introduce some new rules to improve transparency and accountability.

Wade MacLauchlan says the province will soon have new conflict-of-interest regulations for deputy ministers and senior political advisors.

The new rules would impose restrictions on investments or involvement with firms doing business with government.

These restrictions already apply to cabinet ministers.

As well, MacLauchlan says there will be new restrictions on how long deputy ministers and senior advisors will have to wait before they can take jobs with firms that do business with the government.

The premier says the new measures will be tabled during the spring sitting of the legislature.
